Eastern Cape provincial departments were only able to draw down R21.9 million of the R60.3 million allocated as a wage incentive grant as part of the Expanded Public Works Programme in the last financial year, according to a report tabled in Parliament.
The report by the Public Works Portfolio Committee follows an oversight visit to the province last year.
Only four of the seven eligible departments managed to perform at or beyond the threshold required to access the grant.
Of 25 eligible municipalities, 20 exceeded the threshold accessing R30.3 of an available R97.8 million.
