The Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality says it is currently experiencing low storage levels in various reservoirs due to lower production at the Nooitgedagt Water Treatment works.

The Department of Human Settlements, Water and Sanitation explains that supply to the city has been reduced by 20 to 30% due to a canal failure higher up in the Orange river transfer scheme.

This has caused low levels in the balancing dam that feeds the Nooitgedagt treatment works.

The transfer scheme is expected to be back in operation by 24 December 2019.

NMBM has augmented supply to prevent disruptions, however consumption remains high during the current hot festive season.

Consumers and all holiday visitors are requested to maintain responsible water use during this period as well as throughout the festive season.

The situation will closely be monitored and water tankers will be positioned in areas if needed. Call centre – 0800205050
