The Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality will hold a sod turning ceremony on Friday, 26 August 2011, at Tshangana Clinic in Tshangana Street, New Brighton at 10 am. The media are invited to the event.
The clinic was upgraded in 2001 when an extra store room, kitchen and toilets were added but no additional consulting rooms were included in the project. After a municipal risk report highlighted the bad conditions under which the staff at the clinic had to render health services, a decision was taken to build a new one on the same site. The reported stated that ‘the Tshangana Clinic could not continue to operate as a provider of Health Care Services in it`s then state. It needed to either be refurbished extensively or demolished as municipal staff and clients were facing numerous health and safety hazards therein,’ the report highlighted.
The new clinic will be constructed next to the dilapidated one at an approximate total cost of R3.5 million inclusive of the structure, equipment and security.
