Eastern Cape MEC for Economic Development, Environmental Affairs and Tourism will visit the Witelsbos area in Tsitsikamma at 14h00 to assess damaged that has been caused by the wildfires that started in the Western Cape.

MEC Mabuyane is currently in Jefferies Bay to commemorate National Marine Day and the Greenest Municipality Competition. “I will go to see the damage so that if needs be it can be accommodated in government disaster interventions. I will also engage my counterpart on the Western Cape, MEC for Environmental Affairs and Development Planning Anton Bredell so that we prepare better for these wildfires in the future as they are not new in the area.

Last year alone damage to property was estimated into billions of rands, but we can never put value to the loss of human life, damage to the environment especially flora and fauna and tourism potential of the area. So we must be better prepared to curb and minimise the impact of the wildfires in our environment.” said MEC Mabuyane.
